Around Byron’s Main Street – Project 365

Stopped at Downtown Byron this morning for a few photos of the old Main Street and the very busy intersection of Byron Highway and Camino Diablo. If it were not for the shortcut traffic this part of the town would be dead. Byron Hwy connects to Interstate 205 which connects to I-580 West and I-5 North, and via Mountain House Road to I-580 East and I-5 South.

It seems that this intersection is where two shortcut routes meet. Many drivers coming or going to Antioch/Brentwood via the old Bypass Road, now Hwy 4, prefer to take Vasco Road to Camino Diablo instead of staying on Hwy 4 (turning into, or coming, from March Creek Road) to go to, or come from, Byron Highway. Others that do take Hwy 4 use Holway Drive and Camino Diablo to get to Byron Hwy instead of staying on Hwy 4 all the way to the Byron Hwy intersection.
