2017-06-15 Recovery Day 101

Today I changed my activity schedule again. I got up with Dianne and helped with preparing breakfast. Denise joined us a bit later. I enjoyed my breakfast with Denise, as Dianne needs to be at work very early. She actually eats her breakfast there. I stayed downstairs until Denise departed for work, at which time I returned upstairs to get myself ready for the day.

Ray and I had our daily FT call before Alice, a very good family friend, visited me for lunch, which she had brought with her. Alice is a semi retired nurse that was/is working for the local cancer center. I really enjoyed the time with Alice, we both agreed to do it again very soon.

The visit took a lot of energy out of me, which resulted in my pain level to increase. The only way to get the pain level back down, was to rest. I therefore went back upstairs to rest until Dianne came back home from work. My pain level did go down a bit but not enough to be comfortable for the rest of the evening. I therefore took 4mg of the.breakthrough medication which did bring the pain down to the acceptable level.

Interesting enough, Alice brought the topic of my breakthrough medication up during our lunch. She had read my posting where I mention we changed the dosage from 8mg to 4mg. She made the point that trying to reduce the dosage because of fear to become hooked is wrong. To become an addict one must have the addictive tendencies to start. This is not the first time I have been told this, the last time it was during my 10-Day stay to deal with my baseline pain level.

Talking with Dianne about it, we both agreed that it is very important not be in pain. Therefore I am back taking 8mg of Dilaudid every 8 hours. We will know soon if that will reduce the pain level enough to be acceptable.

Standard ending, that’s it for today, I will now watch a good movie as part of my evening rest period before going to bed.

  1. It was great to see you Klaus and spend some time chatting/catching up. Your road has had lots of bumps in it but you are weathering it quite well. We all hope that each day gets a little bit better and that your quality of life is good. I am looking forward to seeing you again soon.

    1. Alice, it was great seeing you as well. It has been awhile since we got together. Thanks for your support and explaining a few things that were not clear to me. I can’t wait for you to visit again in the very near future.
