Today was a OK day. The day started with no change to the daily morning routine. The only difference being instead of getting ready for my one hour morning walk, I got ready for treatment cycle two, started with the biologic Infusion. For those of you who read my blog every day may asked, WHAT, no Chemo? That is correct, my first treatment cycle used Carfilzomib which is a pure chemo drug. For this treatment cycle it is being replace with Daratumumab which is a biological. What is the difference?
Simple answer chemo Treatment goes after the cells in question and destroys the good and bad, it does not know the difference. It is a fast way to kill the bad cells. I got this as my first treatment because my Immunoglobulin A (IgA) was very high 7500 instead of being in the range of 60 to 280. It needed to come down very quickly and chemo treatment was the only way.
Biological Treatment stimulates or restores the ability of the immune (defense) system to fight infection and disease. Biological therapy is thus any form of treatment that uses the body’s natural abilities that constitute the immune system to fight infection and disease or to protect the body from some of the side effects of treatment.
Back to the treatment, start of my second 28 day cycle. Shortly after the infusion of the pre-meds I was overcome with spasms again, like during first cycle. Today’s spasms again lighter and shorter and the location was only inside of my left shoulder joint. Like before to help me relax, I laid down on the overnight bed. Keeping it short, it worked. I dozed of for a while and when I woke up the spasms had stopped. My treatment ended at a bit after 4:30 PM.
After getting back home it was time for dinner. After dinner we watching some TV before retiring for the night.
That is it for today, in summary, today was a OK day.
