2020-01-29 Living with Cancer Day 1057

Summary
Today was a busy but good day. My pain levels were low after getting up but increased during the activities in preparation for our trip to UCSF. The levels got a bit lower during the drive, but increased during the appointment time and have stayed at a higher level for the rest of the day.

Waking Up – 06:00:00 PST, 43°F Clear, Antioch, CA
Woke up a bit late, starting to collect my weather data for Steve, which took a bit longer since I used my iPad for the first time, normally I use my iPhone. Interesting how the same apps, like Wunderground, Byword, and even Twitter all have different GUIs,

Since I officially wake up around 7:00 and stay in bed until I get up any time between 8:00 to 8:30, I did not go back to sleep, but stayed awake and browse through my emails and new news items.

Getting Up – 08:00:18 PST, 45°F Partly Cloudy, Antioch, CA
After getting up and dressed, I spent some time on my CPAP mask and air hose setup. After that, I spent some time in my office to find some iPhone/iPad cables and a USB cigarette lighter. Finally, I went downstairs.

Getting Ready For UCSF MC – 8:45:33 PST, 48°F Partly Cloudy, Antioch, CA
Finally, I am downstairs, making my Bran Flakes Cereal and taking my regular morning medication. At 9:00 I took my antibiotics and Dilaudid.

Our plan was to leave by 11:00, Dianne changed it to 10:30, giving me 90 minutes to get the stuff ready for our trip to San Francisco.

Dianne came around 10:15 to load up the car and make sure we did not miss anything. We left at our planned time.

Off to UCSF MC – 10:15:30 PST, 54°F Mostly Cloudy, Antioch, CA
The drive to UCSF MC was eventless. Traffic was moving at the usual speed limit, the only major and unexpected slowdowns were at the Bay Bridge Toll Plaza. There were some minor on CA4, CA242/I680, and I60/CA24. The slowdowns did not change the original calculated arrival time.

Stopping for Lunch – 11:30:25 PST, 54°F Clear, UCSF MC at Parnassus Heights, San Francisco, CA
Since we were very early for our appointment we decided to find an outdoor place to have the lunch we had with us.

We stopped at Golden Gate Park- Kezar Triangle on Lincoln Way, West of Kezar Stadium and less than 5 minutes from UCF MD.

I took the opportunity to take today’s pictures, a mixture of Landscape and Nature (Flowers/Bushes).

At UCSF MC Eye Clinic – 12:00:20 PST, 54°F Partly Cloudy, UCSF MC at Parnassus Heights, San Francisco, CA
We arrive at the Eye Clinic an hour early, we registered and started our wait. I work a bit on this blog entry. About 30 minutes later they started by taking a number of pictures of both eyes, as they did at every appointment.

Because the specialist could not find my medical record, the issue being my last name, which was my first name, had a spelling error in it. It took some time to change, switch First and Last name around and correct my now Last Name from Naujak to Naujok.

Taking the pictures took some more than normal time as the system was very slow today. Since she could not look at all pictures to check them out, I was let go anyways as it was time to do the first pre-check. Next came the full checkup Dane by a doctor. The final review by the Team doctor, which in my case is the main doctor of the project.

The outcome of the session is positive, the medication I am taking is doing their thing. We must remember this will be a slow process. The eye’s inflammation is slowly reducing since the cloudiness is slowly less and less. There is no increase in the virus and spread over to the left eye.

Because of the progress, as little as it is, being right on track, my next checkup will be in two weeks, not next week. Also, I no longer need to be administered with eye drops. Our appointment ended at 2:00 (14:00), a good time for a less stressful return drive.

Going Home – 14:10:06 PST, 55°F Drizzle, UCSF Helen Diller MC at Parnassus Heights, San Francisco, CA
After getting our car out of valet parking we were on our way back home around 2:15. The Navigation System predicted the arrival time of 3:45.

If it were not for two extra stops, one at Costco and the other at Mister Pickles to pick up buns for Dianne’s leftover meatloaf, we would have made it, as we made it home by 4:00.

The End Of Today – 18:45:52 PST, 54°F Partly Cloudy, Antioch, CA
Not much to write since our day ends almost the same each day. We have dinner around 5:00 to 5:30, watching TV until it is time to retire.
