2020-02-12 Living with Cancer Day 1071
Today was a bad day. My pain levels were high OK for most of the day, taking in to account the somewhat long walks within the eye clinic. The bad part was the lack of activities because of the 4 hours of travel time and the aftereffect of dilation.
Getting Up – 07:02:51 PST, 41°F Clear, Antioch, CA
I got up early since we had to leave by 8:00 for our trip to UCSF MC for my eye clinic appointment. I was downstairs by 7:25, had breakfast and took my morning medication. I checked on my minimized list of items to take and put out my jacket, hat, and walking cane, ready for pickup by Dianne.
On to UCSF MC – 07:55:21 PST, 43°F Clear, Antioch, CA
Left a few minutes early since Maps driving time was 2 hours instead of the 1 1/2 hours it normally. Checking with the NAV system it confirmed the time, however using the HOV lane between Antioch and CA242 cut it down by 20 minutes.
As it turns out, the toll plaza was blocked pushing the drive time to 2 1/2 hours instead of the 2 hours at the start. We were 15 minutes late for our appointment.
At UCSF MC’ Eye Clinic – 10:20:57 PST, 55°F Clear, UCSF MC at Parnassus Heights, San Francisco, CA
We got here on time by skipping going to the washroom first, something for after. However there was a problem, they could not find our appointment, it looked like someone screwed up. Later we found out that whoever scheduled the appointment, did it for 2 months later not 2 weeks. We were put into the queue promising since it was their error to get us in quickly.
The quickly became 60 minutes for the pre-checkup, which lasted 15 minutes. However, instead of staying in the room awaiting the first doctor for the optical review step, we were asked to return to the waiting room since he was running late.
Reminding them of the promise to get us through with minimal delay, we waited no more than 10 minutes before getting back into an examination room.
The waiting time would have been 40 minutes, however as the doctor was ready at 12:15 he noticed that no pictures were taken during the pre-check-in, we told them that this was done every time. They ignored us.
This took another extra 15 minutes before seeing the doctor again. The optical examination took about 15 minutes. The final step by the department leading doctor in this area was 5 minutes later. He reviewed today’s information and did a short optical examination. He then told us he was very happy with the progress as it was a huge improvement. The inflammation is way down and is under control with the current medication. Therefore our next appointment is in 4 weeks.
Leaving for Home – 12:56:41 PST, 59°F Clear, UCSF MC at Parnassus Heights, San Francisco, CA
We left around 1:00 after checking out of parking. Estimated arrival time at 2:30, we will see.
I could not do much in the car since both eyes were very dilated, nor could I look and see what Dianne pointed out. We did for a short stop at the car dealer to pick up my hat I lost there. The arrival time at home was 2:45, taking the 15 minutes off for the detour, it took 1 hr 30 min, going home and 2 hr 30 min getting to UCSF, a total of 4 hours travel time,
The Rest of the Day – 17:56:39 PST, 59°F Clear, Antioch, CA
After being back home, I spend some time with AT&T’s support department about switching the phone numbers of two new iPhones that were ordered and just arrived.
After that, I went outside into our backyard to enjoy the nice warm weather and keeping Dianne company as she did some garden work.
Just before it was time for Dianne to prepared dinner, I went inside too. I started to review what I had entered so far for today’s blog and added what took place afterward, which is this entry.
There is not much more to write, after dinner, I continued with working on today’s posting watching TV in the background. After posting it I rested watching TV until it is time to retire.
