Lately I see more and more eBusiness standards/specifications being release with the promise that the new solution can be easily implemented by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). To me this is a clear indication that those responsible for the new specification are clueless about what the SMEs needs really are.

In 1998 there were various moves towards XML as an EDI replacement. Towards the end of that year UN/EDIFACT users demanded that UNECE (CEFACT) created an XML solution in order to protect is investment and leading role as the standards setter in electronic information exchange.
