Accessing an iDisk Pubic Folder

To mount another .Mac/MobileMe member’s iDisk Public folder, select from the Finder menu bar Go > iDisk > Other User’s Public Folder option:

You will see a dialog window opening asking for the Member’s .Mac/MobileMe name. Enter the Member’s name and click on the Connect button:

A progress window will open:

In case the folder is password protected a second dialog window will open in allowing you to enter the required password. If you plan to access the folder regularly click on the Remember this password in my keychain option. To continue click on the OK button.

This mounts the iDisk on your desktop, so you can work with it, depending on the owner of the folder, you may only have read access. If the owner allowed full read/write access you will be able to use the iDisk like any other hard disk.

Please note that the iDisk icon may not look like this:

But instead like this:

The icon format depends if you are on OS X 10.5.4 or not. Functionality is not affected. Also in addition to the disk being shown as mounted a finder window will open showing the content of the public folder.

To see any subfolders, click on the triangle to the left of the top folders name:

To dismount (eject) the iDisk click on the eject icon to the right of the iDisk in the left side bar of the Finder window:

If you don’t see the iDisk under the DEVICES section in the Finder window, you may need to change your Finder Preferences. To do so, select from the Finder menu bar Finder > Preferences…:

In the Preferences window make sure that the iDisk option has a check mark against it:
