It’s done, the switch is completed. As expected there was not much setup to do in getting WordPress up and running. After creating the MySQL database required, the 5 minute install worked as promised. I had one minor issue regarding the separate static front and blog page.

I found the “Creating a Static Front Page” article in the WordPress Codex and followed it to the letter. However, the end result was that I could get to the home page as expected, but after entering a blog post and selecting the Blog link in the top navigation menu to see the entry, the system responses with an Not Found error => The requested URL /blog/ was not found on this server.

As it turned out, reading a bit more about installing WordPress under OS X, I found the problem, I had not configure Apache to “AllowOverride All”. The rest of the week’s free spare time was used to transfer the blog content from Enki and testing the various options. For now the system is bare bone using the default setup with the Akismet plugin enabled to protect the blog from comment and trackback spam. The only additional plugins used are Google XML Sitemaps, Maintenance Mode and iPad Swipe. As to the look and feel, what you see is the default theme.

As always, let me know what you think of the new system, feel free to make suggestions to improve the site.
